{"id":9563,"date":"2019-06-26T10:17:31","date_gmt":"2019-06-26T16:17:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coloradofloodthreat.com\/?p=9563"},"modified":"2019-06-27T07:20:35","modified_gmt":"2019-06-27T13:20:35","slug":"spm-06-26-2019-sunny-skies-interrupted-by-afternoon-showers-over-the-palmer-ridge-and-eastern-plains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/?p=9563","title":{"rendered":"SPM 06-26-2019: Sunny Skies Interrupted by Afternoon Showers Over the Palmer Ridge and Eastern Plains"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Issue date: Wednesday, June 26<sup>th<\/sup>, 2019<br>\nIssue Time: 10:30 AM MDT<\/p>\n<h3>Summary:<\/h3>\n<p>Calm conditions and clear skies yesterday as an upper level ridge set in over the region.&nbsp; A weak <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;shortwave&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A disturbance in the mid or upper part of the atmosphere which induces upward motion ahead of it.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>shortwave<\/span> passed over central Colorado during the early afternoon and helped provide lift for brief midday showers over the northwest quadrant as well as the North, Central and San Juan Mountains.&nbsp; Radar derived rainfall estimated less than 0.25 inches over most of these areas.&nbsp; Pockets of short duration, <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span>, rainfall of up to 0.3 inches in 1-hour occurred over the Urban Corridor, Palmer Ridge and the southernmost portion of the Northeast Plains. Once again, dry air below the high cloud base prompted gusty winds. Buckley Air Force Base reported a gust of 33 mph at 2 PM.<\/p>\n<p>Other than the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span> showers, the day was full of sunny skies and seasonal temperatures.&nbsp; High temperatures reached 95&deg;F over the Southeast Plains, 90&deg;F over the Grand Valley, and into the low 80&deg;Fs in the valleys of the high country.&nbsp; Rain cooled air and cloud cover prevented temperatures at DIA from reaching 90&deg;F. Thus, the record for the latest day a high temperature to reach 90&deg;F was broken (since 1995).<\/p>\n<p>Waters retreated from Action stage along the North Platte River near Northgate and the Arkansas River near Avondale.&nbsp; Gages remain in Action stage on the Rio Grande River near Alamosa and the Arkansas River at La Junta, but flows are decreasing.&nbsp; No Flooding was reported yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>For a look at precipitation estimates in your area, please see the State Precipitation Map below.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id6a1f47e6624ad\" tabindex=\"0\" title=\"Click Here For Map Overview\">Click Here For Map Overview<\/h4><div id=\"target-id6a1f47e6624ad\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \">\nThe map below shows radar-estimated, rainfall gage-adjusted Quantitative Precipitation Estimates (<span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;QPE&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Q&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;uantitative &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;P&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;recipitation &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;E&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;stimate; an estimate of the amount of precipitation that has fallen at a particular location or across a region based on several different data sources, such as radar or satellite; QPE is often calculated using remotely-sensed data sources&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>QPE<\/span>) across Colorado. The map is updated daily during the operational season (May 1 &ndash; Sep 30) by 11AM. The following six layers are currently available: 24-hour, 48-hour and 72-hour total precipitation, as well as maximum 1-hour, 2-hour and 6-hour precipitation over the past 24 hour period (to estimate where <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;flash flooding&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;flash flooding can refer to usually dry areas becoming rapidly inundated with water, or rapid water level rises on streams, creeks, or rivers beyond flood stage; typically caused by heavy rainfall, but can also be caused by meltwater&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>flash flooding<\/span> may have occurred). The 24-hour, 48-hour and 72-hour total precipitation contain bias corrections that are not disaggregated into the hourly estimates, so there will likely be some differences. The accumulation ending time is 7AM of the date shown in the bottom right corner. Also shown optionally are vulnerable fire burn areas (post 2012), which are updated throughout the season to include new, vulnerable burn areas.
