{"id":9520,"date":"2019-06-24T08:47:02","date_gmt":"2019-06-24T14:47:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coloradofloodthreat.com\/?p=9520"},"modified":"2019-06-25T07:44:01","modified_gmt":"2019-06-25T13:44:01","slug":"ftb-06-24-2019-high-temperatures-rebound-with-isolated-storms-forecast-for-this-afternoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/?p=9520","title":{"rendered":"FTB 06-24-2019: High Temperatures Rebound with Isolated Storms Forecast for this Afternoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Issue Date: Monday, June 24th, 2019<br>\nIssue Time: 9:00AM MDT<\/p>\n<p><em>&ndash;A <strong>LOW <\/strong>flood threat is issued for Saguache Creek, the headwaters of the and along the Rio Grande in Mineral and west Rio Grande Counties and for the San Antonio, Conejos Rivers in south central Colorado, Arkansas River downstream of Pueblo Dam to Nepesta and rivers\/streams in central Jackson County.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The main axis of the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;trough&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;An elongated area of relatively low atmospheric pressure; the opposite of a ridge.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>trough<\/span> has passed to the east, which will place the state under northwesterly\/westerly flow aloft today as the ridge slides in from the west and begins to build over the state the next couple of days. Rising pressure with only minimal residual moisture remaining under the ridge (<span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;PW&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;(Stands for: Precipitable Water) The total atmospheric water vapor contained in a vertical column of the atmosphere. It is typically measured in inches, and anomalously (deviation from normal) high values of precipitable water generally correlate to heavy rainfall potential.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>PW<\/span> was measured at 0.43 inches at Denver) will keep the rainfall today limited to high-based showers and weak thunderstorms favoring the Northern Mountains, eastern San Juan Mountains and southern Front Range\/Palmer Ridge intersect for development this afternoon. A couple additional weak storms may be possible over the far Northeast Plains late this afternoon, but should not become severe. Storms are anticipated to dissipate as they move off the mountains with the northwest steering flow. All storm activity is forecast to come to an end a couple hours after sundown as instability declines. As anticipated, flooding from rainfall is not forecast.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/vis_20190624.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9521\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/vis_20190624.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"723\" height=\"426\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The riverine Low flood threat continues for various stretches of river across the state and are marked in the flood threat map below. Saguache Creek, the headwaters of the and along the Rio Grande in Mineral and west Rio Grande Counties and the San Antonio\/Conejos Rivers in south central Colorado have a Flood <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Warning&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;a weather warning is issued when a specific weather event is imminent or occurring&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Warning<\/span> issued through this afternoon. Minor flooding has also been reported, with some rural roads being washed out, in central Jackson County due to snowmelt and heavy rainfall the last couple of days. This Flood <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Warning&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;a weather warning is issued when a specific weather event is imminent or occurring&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Warning<\/span> continues through 1PM this afternoon with river levels expected to decrease over the next day or two. Lastly, a Low flood threat has been issued for the Arkansas downstream of Pueblo Dam to Nepesta. The AHPS gage in Avondale is in the Minor flooding stage and is expected to remain elevated (at the current level) through today. Most mountainous regions should reach the 60&deg;Fs, so much warmer temperatures overall. &nbsp;<span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Isolated<\/span> max 1-hour rain rates up to 0.2 inches will be possible, but the majority of storms will produce under 0.15 inches or only <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;trace&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;a descriptor used when precipitation occurs, but the amount is too small (less than 0.01&amp;quot;) to be measured by a weather instrument such as a rain gauge&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>trace<\/span> amounts. Flooding is not anticipated except over the lower Arkansas from Pueblo Dam to Nepesta.<\/p>\n<p>Primetime: 1PM to 10PM<\/p>\n<h4><strong>San Juan Mountains, Northern Mountains, Central Mountains, Northwest Slope, Grand Valley, Southwest Slope, San Luis Valley:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Very low <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;dew points&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The temperature to which a given air parcel must be cooled (at constant pressure and water vapor content) in order for saturation to occur.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>dew points<\/span> over these regions and building high pressure, should keep the afternoon storm activity limited. Some high-based showers and a weak thunderstorm or two may be possible over the Northern and eastern San Juan Mountains. Max 1-hour rain rates up to 0.3 inches are possible though most storms will produce under 0.15 inches and plentiful <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;virga&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Wisps or streaks of precipitation falling out of a cloud that evaporate before reaching the surface. Virga can cause strong, but short-lived, localized winds (dry microburst).&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>virga<\/span>.
