This is quite odd because it is so late in the severe weather season. However, excellent <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;shear&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Local variation of the wind, either in the horizontal or vertical direction.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>shear<\/span> and high <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;CAPE&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;(Stands for: Convective Available Potential Energy) CAPE is a measure of the amount of available energy in the atmosphere for convection. Higher values indicate a greater potential for stronger updrafts, thus an increase in the potential for thunderstorms and severe weather.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>CAPE<\/span> (Convective Available Potential Energy) values provided a favorable environment for severe supercells thanks in part to the upper level <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;jet stream&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Relatively strong winds concentrated within a narrow stream in the atmosphere. General weather patterns are related closely to the position, strength and orientation of the jet stream.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>jet stream<\/span> over the area. There were quite a few hail reports up and down the Front Range with hail as large as 2.75 inches over several counties in the Northeast Plains. Strong winds also accompanied the severe storms yesterday with a gust of 83 mph reported over Kit Carson County. Trees were reported down and blocking the road in Prowers County near Granada. There were two tornadoes reported on Sunday from the same storm. The first touchdown was in the Pawnee National Grasslands and the second near Brush. Unfortunately, there was damage with the second touchdown. There were reports of several trees down, planes flipped over and roofs being blown off homes. Thankfully there were no injuries reported.<\/p>\n<p>As far as heavy rainfall, 0.7 inches fell in a quick 30-minute span over Pueblo County. The larger storms over the eastern plains were producing 1-hour rain rates just over 2 inches. While rivers in the area rose a couple of feet, no flooding was reported as of Monday morning. The map is updated daily during the operational season (May 1 &ndash; Sep 30) by 11AM. The following six layers are currently available: 24-hour, 48-hour and 72-hour total precipitation, as well as maximum 1-hour, 2-hour and 6-hour precipitation over the past 24 hour period (to estimate where <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;flash flooding&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;flash flooding can refer to usually dry areas becoming rapidly inundated with water, or rapid water level rises on streams, creeks, or rivers beyond flood stage; typically caused by heavy rainfall, but can also be caused by meltwater&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>flash flooding<\/span> may have occurred). The 24-hour, 48-hour and 72-hour total precipitation contain bias corrections that are not disaggregated into the hourly estimates, so there will likely be some differences. The accumulation ending time is 7AM of the date shown in the bottom right corner. Also shown optionally are fire burn areas (post 2012), which are updated throughout the season to include new burn areas.
