{"id":3747,"date":"2016-09-07T09:15:23","date_gmt":"2016-09-07T15:15:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.coloradofloodthreat.com\/?p=3747"},"modified":"2016-09-07T09:05:01","modified_gmt":"2016-09-07T15:05:01","slug":"3747","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/?p=3747","title":{"rendered":"FTB 09-07-2016:  Isolated Thunderstorm Possible in the South"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Issue Date: 9\/7\/2016<br>\nIssue Time: 9:15 AM<\/p>\n<p><em>NO FLOOD THREAT IS FORECAST.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The mid-level southwesterly flow of moisture from remnants of Hurricane Newton will continue today, although low-level moisture <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;advection&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The process of transport of an atmospheric property, typically temperature or moisture in our FTB discussions, by the wind. &amp;quot;Strong&rdquo; or &amp;quot;weak&rdquo; advection refers to the rate of change of the advected property&amp;#039;s value at a given point.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>advection<\/span> that has been persistent over the last few days and produced a few strong storms yesterday has moved out of much of the region to the east ahead of the eastward progression of the northern U.S. <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;trough&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;An elongated area of relatively low atmospheric pressure; the opposite of a ridge.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>trough<\/span>. The graph below illustrates the sudden drop in low-level moisture at two locations beginning at about 02:00 UTC as the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;trough&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;An elongated area of relatively low atmospheric pressure; the opposite of a ridge.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>trough<\/span> moved through the region. With a lack of sufficient low-level moisture, the result should be a dry and mild day with plenty of sunshine in much of the eastern half of the state, although a thin upper-level cirrus cloud deck may be present over some locations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/GPSMET-IPW-09072016.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"  wp-image-3750 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/GPSMET-IPW-09072016.png\" alt=\"GPSMET IPW (09072016)\" width=\"639\" height=\"274\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A small amount of low-level moisture will likely be advected into extreme southern portions of the Raton Ridge and Southeast Plains later today, which may spark off a few <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span> thunderstorms in the afternoon. Maximum rain rates will remain well below flooding thresholds. An upper-level cirrus cloud deck may form throughout the remainder of the region, but sunshine will prevail most of the day.
