The large-scale disturbance that has been in our discussions for nearly a week now is still positioned west of Colorado. However, the main difference is that with strong southwesterly flow aloft, moisture has decreased significantly over most of Colorado today. The <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;precipitable water&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The total atmospheric water vapor contained in a vertical column of the atmosphere. It is typically measured in inches, and anomalously (deviation from normal) high values of precipitable water generally correlate to heavy rainfall potential.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>precipitable water<\/span> chart, below, shows a unanimous decline at the five sites shown here (Denver, Boulder, Pueblo, Grand Junction and Colorado Springs) into the 0.6 to 0.8 inch range. The one exception to this conclusion is in the far northeast part of the state. There, a small pocket of moister air and instability will remain this afternoon. This is expected to cause <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;scattered&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;25-40% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>scattered<\/span> thunderstorms, capable of large hail up to 1.5 inches and a tornado or two.
