This scenario is picked up well by this morning&rsquo;s ensemble of high-resolution models, which I have decided to show below. West of the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Divide&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;the dividing line that separates the watersheds of the western and eastern United States; rivers west of the divide empty into the Pacific Ocean, while rivers east of the divide empty into the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Divide<\/span>, moisture is scarce, and very little activity is expected. The exception to this will be over the higher terrain of the San Juan Mountains and Southwest Slope, where a couple <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span> showers\/weak thunderstorms will have access to slightly better low-level moisture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/POP_20160813.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"  wp-image-3425 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/POP_20160813.png\" alt=\"POP_20160813\" width=\"434\" height=\"291\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Helping the weak disturbance in the development of showers\/storms over eastern Colorado will be the preferred terrain of the Front Rage\/Southeast Mountains, Cheyenne Ridge, Palmer Ridge, Raton Ridge, as well as a surface convergence boundary laid across the eastern plains. Most storms will be garden variety, producing periods of moderate rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning. A few stronger storms are expected, with periods of brief heavy rainfall and small hail mixed in with the gusty winds\/lightning. <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;outflow boundaries&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A surface boundary formed by the horizontal spreading of thunderstorm-cooled air. Outflow boundaries may intersect with each other or with other features (fronts, dry line, low-level jet) and initiate new convection. Brief strong winds are possible with outflow boundaries, and they can also persist for more than 24 hours.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Outflow boundaries<\/span> will locally enhance available moisture, and any storms interacting with another storm&rsquo;s <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;outflow&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A cool pool of air that results when a thunderstorm downdraft reaches the surface and spreads horizontally.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>outflow<\/span> will be the likeliest to produce heavy rainfall. A few stronger storms are possible, producing periods of locally heavy rainfall and small hail. Maximum rain rates are as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Front Range and Southeast Mountains: 0.6-1.0 inches\/hour<br>\nUrban Corridor: 0.8-1.1 inches\/hour<br>\nPalmer Ridge: 0.8-1.2 inches\/hour<br>\nNortheast Plains: 1.2-2.0 inches\/hour<br>\nSoutheast Plains and Raton Ridge: 1.5-2.5 inches\/hour<\/p>\n<p>Timing: Noon &ndash; Midnight, with a couple showers\/storms lingering into the early morning hours over the Southeast Plains\/Raton Ridge<\/p>\n<h4><strong>San Juan Mountains and Southwest Slope:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Isolated<\/span>, high-based showers\/weak storms expected over the higher terrain. Most rainfall will be light, with maximum rain rates of 0.4-0.6 inches\/hour. Virga can cause strong, but short-lived, localized winds (dry microburst).&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>virga<\/span>\/gusty winds with light showers.
