The water vapor imagery below shows the nice subtropical moisture plume in blue, and <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;widespread&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;greater than 60% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>widespread<\/span> lift is accompanying the disturbance. As this feature moves northeast throughout the day and into tomorrow, there will be an increase in <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;PW&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;(Stands for: Precipitable Water) The total atmospheric water vapor contained in a vertical column of the atmosphere. It is typically measured in inches, and anomalously (deviation from normal) high values of precipitable water generally correlate to heavy rainfall potential.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>PW<\/span> and mid and upper-level dynamics over the area. Today, these features are expected to cause <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;widespread&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;greater than 60% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>widespread<\/span> rainfall over western Colorado. However, a dry surface layer was noted in the sounding. As the multi-hour rainfall event begins, the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;dew point&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The temperature to which a given air parcel must be cooled (at constant pressure and water vapor content) in order for saturation to occur.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>dew point<\/span> depression should begin to lessen, which means rainfall rates should become more efficient with higher accumulations possible over the lower elevation valleys. While fairly quick southeast to northwest storm motion should somewhat limit the threat from any individual storm, <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;training&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Continuous or repeated rainfall over the same region&nbsp;in a relatively short time span. Training thunderstorms can produce very high rainfall totals and cause flash flooding.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>training<\/span> storms are expected to increase the flood threat over portions of the high terrain. This is especially true for south and southwest facing slopes. Due to the longer duration threat from rainfall today, a LOW flood threat has been issued.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, it should remain dry for most of eastern Colorado with <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;PW&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;(Stands for: Precipitable Water) The total atmospheric water vapor contained in a vertical column of the atmosphere. Flood threats today include mud flows and debris slides over steeper terrain along with ponding in low-lying areas. Rises on local streams and creeks may also be possible closer to the heavy rainfall cores. Most rainfall should come to an end by later this evening, but lighter rainfall is likely to linger over the high terrain into tomorrow morning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Primetime: 10AM to Ongoing<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Southeast Mountains, Front Range, Raton Ridge, Urban Corridor, Palmer Ridge, Northeast Plains &amp; Southeast Plains:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not much rainfall action today. If storms can develop north of the southern border, totals should remain under 0.25 inches. With only light storm totals forecast, flooding is NOT expected.
