As such, storms were mostly limited to the high southern elevations, and the highest elevations of the northern Front Range. Storms developed by mid-afternoon, with dry air and stability over the Plains limiting <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;convection&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Refers to vertical atmospheric motion driven by buoyancy, i.e., warm air is less dense than cool air, and therefore rises. One of the primary drivers of thunderstorm development, especially during monsoon season.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>convection<\/span> there.<\/p>\n<p>The heaviest rain was observed across southern portions of the state, particularly the southern Southwest Slope, San Juan Mountains, and Southeast Mountains, as well as over higher elevations in the Grand Valley. The Grand Junction radar remains out, meaning <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;QPE&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Q&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;uantitative &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;P&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;recipitation &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;E&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;stimate; an estimate of the amount of precipitation that has fallen at a particular location or across a region based on several different data sources, such as radar or satellite; QPE is often calculated using remotely-sensed data sources&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>QPE<\/span> data is likely underestimated, but amounts of 1-2&rdquo; appear to have been common based on rain gauge data. Some notable observations include:<\/p>\n<p>&bull; 1.68&rdquo; southwest of Cortez<br>\n&bull; 1.41&rdquo; near Bayfield<br>\n&bull; 1.28&rdquo; near Grand Mesa<br>\n&bull; 1.14&rdquo; near San Luis Lake<br>\n&bull; 1.10&rdquo; near both Durango and Pagosa Springs<br>\n&bull; 0.98&rdquo; west of Trinidad<\/p>\n<p>A series of Flood Advisories were issued for areas south and west of Durango based on satellite and lightning data, but no flooding was reported. Multiple rivers in the southern Southwest Slope continue experiencing much above normal flows after rainfall the past few days, including the Mancos, San Juan, Los Pinos, and Piedra Rivers, but no flooding has been reported.<\/p>\n<p>For the northern Front Range, multiple Flood Advisories were issued for portions of the Cameron Peak burn scar, but no flooding was reported; <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;QPE&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Q&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;uantitative &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;P&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;recipitation &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;E&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;stimate; an estimate of the amount of precipitation that has fallen at a particular location or across a region based on several different data sources, such as radar or satellite; QPE is often calculated using remotely-sensed data sources&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>QPE<\/span> data suggests amounts of up to 0.50-0.75&rdquo;. The map is updated daily during the operational season (May 1 &ndash; Sep 30) by 11AM.
