Showers and storms formed over the high terrain by early afternoon, with the most intense <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;convection&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Refers to vertical atmospheric motion driven by buoyancy, i.e., warm air is less dense than cool air, and therefore rises. One of the primary drivers of thunderstorm development, especially during monsoon season.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>convection<\/span> developing over the southern Front Range and its foothills and building south-southeastward. A cool front tracking slowly southward across eastern Colorado provided surface convergence for convective initiation, while diurnal heating and orographic ascent also helped storms to build. The heaviest rainfall occurred east of the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Divide&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;the dividing line that separates the watersheds of the western and eastern United States; rivers west of the divide empty into the Pacific Ocean, while rivers east of the divide empty into the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Divide<\/span>, along the I-25 corridor from Denver southward to Pueblo and then eastward across the Palmer Ridge and into Kit-Carson County.<\/p>\n<p>Four Flood Advisories were issued for the greater Denver metropolitan area where 1-2&rdquo; of rain was observed. The public reported large tree limbs down and power poles broken. Two more Flood Advisories were also issued for southern Douglas and Jefferson Counties, but no flooding was reported. Notable rainfall observations in the Denver area include:<\/p>\n<p>&bull; 1.76&rdquo; east of Highlands Ranch<br>\n&bull; 1.75&rdquo; near Centennial<br>\n&bull; 1.73&rdquo; east of Lakewood<br>\n&bull; 1.61&rdquo; near Broomfield<\/p>\n<p>Further south along I-25, the Colorado Springs area experienced significant flooding, with <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;QPE&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Q&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;uantitative &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;P&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;recipitation &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;E&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;stimate; an estimate of the amount of precipitation that has fallen at a particular location or across a region based on several different data sources, such as radar or satellite; QPE is often calculated using remotely-sensed data sources&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>QPE<\/span> estimates of up to 2.5&rdquo; of rain. The public reported significant flooding north of Truckton, along with a road washed out northeast of Calhan. A <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;NWS&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;National Weather Service&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>NWS<\/span> employee reported large tree limbs down, and a 57-mph gust was measured in the area. The map is updated daily during the operational season (May 1 &ndash; Sep 30) by 11AM.
