Showers and storms developed with diurnal heating by early afternoon across the high terrain south of I-70, while ascent along a surface boundary helped precipitation eventually extend across southern portions of the Southeast Plains.<\/p>\n<p>The heaviest rain fell across the western Palmer Ridge and far southern Urban Corridor, where <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;QPE&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Q&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;uantitative &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;P&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;recipitation &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;E&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;stimate; an estimate of the amount of precipitation that has fallen at a particular location or across a region based on several different data sources, such as radar or satellite; QPE is often calculated using remotely-sensed data sources&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>QPE<\/span> data suggests localized amounts up to 2.50&rdquo; were observed. Gauge observations in this vicinity include:<\/p>\n<p>&bull; 1.70&rdquo; west of Colorado Springs Airport<br>\n&bull; 1.20&rdquo; east of Pueblo Memorial Airport<br>\n&bull; 0.81&rdquo; south of Fort Carson<\/p>\n<p><strong>At Colorado Springs Airport, 1.47&rdquo; of that 24-hour total was observed in 30 minutes, which has an estimated <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;ARI&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;A&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;verage &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;R&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;ecurrence &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;I&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;nterval; the average or expected length of time between the exceedance of a given rainfall threshold; average recurrence interval = 1\/(annual exceedance probability)&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>ARI<\/span> of over 21 years!<\/strong> <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;flash flood&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;flash flooding can refer to usually dry areas becoming rapidly inundated with water, or rapid water level rises on streams, creeks, or rivers beyond flood stage; typically caused by heavy rainfall, but can also be caused by meltwater&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Flash Flood<\/span> Warnings were issued for southwest, south-central, and central El Paso County, as well as north-central Pueblo County. Local media relayed reports of minor road flooding in the Security-Widefield area; 1&rdquo; hail was also reported west of Fountain.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, across the San Juans, Southeast Mountains, and Raton Ridge, <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;QPE&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Q&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;uantitative &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;P&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;recipitation &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;E&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;stimate; an estimate of the amount of precipitation that has fallen at a particular location or across a region based on several different data sources, such as radar or satellite; QPE is often calculated using remotely-sensed data sources&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>QPE<\/span> data suggests amounts of 0.50-1.50&rdquo; were observed. For the southern Southeast Plains, rain gauge coverage is sparse, but <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;QPE&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Q&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;uantitative &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;P&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;recipitation &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;E&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;stimate; an estimate of the amount of precipitation that has fallen at a particular location or across a region based on several different data sources, such as radar or satellite; QPE is often calculated using remotely-sensed data sources&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>QPE<\/span> data suggests some locations received up to 2.00&rdquo;. Noteworthy gauge observations in this region include:<\/p>\n<p>&bull; 1.09&rdquo; near Trinidad Lake<br>\n&bull; 0.97&rdquo; near Trinidad<br>\n&bull; 0.89&rdquo; near Walsenburg<br>\n&bull; 0.75&rdquo; near Pagosa Springs<br>\n&bull; 0.75&rdquo; near La Veta<\/p>\n<p>Several road flooding reports were received yesterday from the public and local law enforcement across Kit-Carson and Cheyenne Counties, but this flooding was a continuation from Sunday night&rsquo;s heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n<p>If you observe flooding in your area, remember to use the &ldquo;Report a Flood&rdquo; page to make any flood reports when you can safely do so.
