As the morning progressed, storms grew in coverage and expanded eastward into Central and San Juan Mountains, as well as the Front Range, and by afternoon <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;widespread&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;greater than 60% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>widespread<\/span> showers and thunderstorms covered much of the high elevations, Front Range, Urban Corridor, Palmer Ridge, and Northeast Plains. Daytime heating allowed for an increase in energy and therefore increased severe threat on the Eastern Plains, where <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;numerous&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;40-60% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>numerous<\/span> <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;severe thunderstorm&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Thunderstorms that produce a tornado, winds of at least 58 mph (50 kts) and\/or hail at least 1&amp;quot; in diameter.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>severe thunderstorm<\/span> warnings were issued for large hail, high winds, and even a tornado.The eastward progression of the low resulted in drying from west to east, so by sundown most of the action was well onto the Northeast and Southeast Plains. <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;widespread&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;greater than 60% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Widespread<\/span> heavy rain continued for the Southeast Plains and portions of the Raton Ridge until the very early morning hours this morning. With plenty of moisture at the surface from yesterday&rsquo;s rain, many woke up to lingering foggy conditions this morning across the Eastern Plains and Urban Corridor.<\/p>\n<p>There were several flood reports from yesterday&rsquo;s heavy rain, including two on the Cameron Peak burn scar &ndash; which continues to remain particularly sensitive. A <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;flash flood&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;flash flooding can refer to usually dry areas becoming rapidly inundated with water, or rapid water level rises on streams, creeks, or rivers beyond flood stage; typically caused by heavy rainfall, but can also be caused by meltwater&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>flash flood<\/span> <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Warning&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;a weather warning is issued when a specific weather event is imminent or occurring&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>warning<\/span> was issued yesterday afternoon for Larimer County, including the burn scar, after radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain. Flooding was reported at the southern extent of the scar near Glen Haven, where the Miller Fork overtopped CR 43. Flooding was also reported near Buckhorn Mountain, where Sheep Creek overtopped CR 44H in the central portion of the burn scar. CR28 was reported to be completely under water and washed out south of the river, and the basement of some residences also flooded. An impressive 3.50 inches of rain was reported from a Trained Spotter near Brush. Nearby, law enforcement reported visibility was down to 0 miles during the heaviest rain. Due to the rural location, there are limited reports for Aroya, though there are several observations exceeding 1.25 inches, and a few up to 1.50-1.85 in Lincoln and Kit Carson Counties.<\/p>\n<p>Rainfall totals were less impressive for the Urban Corridor, though quick bursts of rain on impervious surfaces resulted in street flooding. Weather Nation shared the following video of street flooding in Northglenn. A CoAgMet station, McClave in Southeast Plains as seen in the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;hyetograph&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;a graph depicting rainfall intensity over time&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>hyetograph<\/span> below, picked up 2.54 inches in 24-hours yesterday. More impressive though, 0.53 of that came in just 5-minutes. This 5-minue total is just below the 10-year average recurrence interval precipitation value of 0.57 inches in 5-minutes for this location.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/McClavemm_time_chart_dyn.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18657 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/McClavemm_time_chart_dyn.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/McClavemm_time_chart_dyn.png 600w, https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/McClavemm_time_chart_dyn-300x135.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some other notable totals across the Northeast and Southeast Plains:<\/p>\n<ul><li>2.47 in Brandon<\/li>\n<li>2.28 in Eads<\/li>\n<li>1.33-2.23 in Brush<\/li>\n<li>2.02 in Las Animas<\/li>\n<li>2.01 in Flagler<\/li>\n<li>1.68 in Lamar<\/li>\n<li>1.52 in Karval<\/li>\n<li>1.29 in Cheyenne Wells<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Some other notable totals for the Urban Corridor and Palmer Ridge:<\/p>\n<ul><li>1.29 in Castle Rock<\/li>\n<li>1.28 in Hugo<\/li>\n<li>1.18 in The Pinery<\/li>\n<li>1.04 in Security<\/li>\n<li>0.84 in Limon<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Of note in the MetStorm Live <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;QPE&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Q&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;uantitative &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;P&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;recipitation &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;E&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;stimate; an estimate of the amount of precipitation that has fallen at a particular location or across a region based on several different data sources, such as radar or satellite; QPE is often calculated using remotely-sensed data sources&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>QPE<\/span> today &ndash; observers near Pagosa Springs reported between 0.90-1.54 inches of rain yesterday, however <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;QPE&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Q&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;uantitative &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;P&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;recipitation &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;E&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;stimate; an estimate of the amount of precipitation that has fallen at a particular location or across a region based on several different data sources, such as radar or satellite; QPE is often calculated using remotely-sensed data sources&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>QPE<\/span> below shows only 0.25-0.50 inches. This southwest portion of the state is notoriously underestimated due to it&rsquo;s distance from radars.
