A disturbance embedded in the flow will work across the state from southwest to northeast through the afternoon\/evening, accompanied by an increase in monsoonal moisture. This will kick off <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;scattered&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;25-40% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>scattered<\/span> showers and thunderstorms across the mountains, Urban Corridor, and Northeast Plains, with more <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span> coverage across the Southeast Plains, Palmer Ridge, and Raton Ridge. Looking at the IPW graph below, the steady increase of moisture since the arrival of yesterday&rsquo;s monsoonal disturbance is evident, and the pattern will continue today.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/09032015_IPW.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"  wp-image-1858 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/09032015_IPW.png\" alt=\"09032015_IPW\" width=\"529\" height=\"227\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The heavy rain threat is a bit higher today as compared to yesterday across the mountains due to increasing moisture and better upper-level support, but steering winds will keep storms moving at a decent clip, limiting the overall flood threat. Lower elevations east of the mountains show a bit of an <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Inverted-V&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Refers to the shape of the lower levels of an atmospheric profile. The shape of the &amp;quot;Inverted V&rdquo; is the result of dry air below cloud level, which promotes strong winds and evaporation of precipitation before reaching the surface.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Inverted-V<\/span> atmospheric profile, meaning gusty winds and lightning will be the main threats, with rain rates staying below <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;flash flooding&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;flash flooding can refer to usually dry areas becoming rapidly inundated with water, or rapid water level rises on streams, creeks, or rivers beyond flood stage; typically caused by heavy rainfall, but can also be caused by meltwater&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>flash flooding<\/span> thresholds. Maximum rain rates will be 0.4-0.7 inches\/hour over the Urban Corridor, and 0.-9-1.2 inches\/hour over the Northeast Plains.<\/p>\n<p>Timing: 1 PM &ndash; 10 PM along the Urban Corridor, and 3 PM &ndash; Midnight across the Northeast Plains.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Raton Ridge, Palmer Ridge, and Southeast Plains:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Partly sunny skies will be in place today with the increase in moisture from the monsoonal disturbance. <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Isolated<\/span> showers\/thunderstorms are expected, with the best opportunity near the mountains. Storm motions will be quick enough to limit the overall flood threat, so only a low flood threat is warranted.
