Behind the front, there is plenty of fog and cloud cover accompanying the cooler temperatures, which should persist over a fairly wide swath today, east of I-25. It&rsquo;s quite chilly for some locations behind the front, and temperatures have dropped as much as 8 to 12 degF from this time yesterday. <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;PW&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;(Stands for: Precipitable Water) The total atmospheric water vapor contained in a vertical column of the atmosphere. It is typically measured in inches, and anomalously (deviation from normal) high values of precipitable water generally correlate to heavy rainfall potential.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>PW<\/span> over Denver has risen slightly to 0.64 inches, but with a strong <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;inversion&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;when temperature increases with height in the atmosphere; the presence of an inversion means the atmosphere is stable&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>inversion<\/span>, the atmosphere will be too <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;stable&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;the atmosphere is considered stable if it resists air attempting to rise; the opposite of unstable&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>stable<\/span> for any afternoon <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;convection&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Refers to vertical atmospheric motion driven by buoyancy, i.e., warm air is less dense than cool air, and therefore rises. One of the primary drivers of thunderstorm development, especially during monsoon season.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>convection<\/span> to develop. So, enjoy the cooler temperatures and cloud cover today before it heats back up tomorrow. Flooding is NOT expected today.<\/p>\n<p>The front&rsquo;s affects over western Colorado are not nearly as&nbsp;pronounced, and outside of some meager moisture around 500mb, the atmosphere remains very dry. It will also be windy over the eastern plains with the tightened pressure gradient and the front dropping south. Gusts between 40 and 50 mph will be possible over the Southeast Plains through 11AM, and then they are only expected to drop to around 30 mph during the afternoon hours. Subsidence aloft means rainfall chances near zero, but some light showers may be possible over the central, eastern border counties. Flooding is NOT expected.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Northwest Slope, Northern Mountains, Grand Valley, San Juan Mountains, Central Mountains &amp; Southwest Slope:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>It could get a little breezy over the northwest corner by this afternoon. Outside of some <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;scattered&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;25-40% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>scattered<\/span> mountain clouds this afternoon, another clear and beautiful day is ahead. Highs are forecast in the 80Fs for the lower elevations and upper 70Fs for the mountain valleys.
