The western half of the state benefited from rainfall the most, beginning in the early morning hours in the Grand Valley and Western Slopes before filling in in coverage to the Northern, Central, and San Juan Mountains by early afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy rain occurred in the Grand Valley, where <strong>between 0.70-1.02 inches were reported across Grand Junction<\/strong>. A new daily rainfall record was set at the Grand Junction Airport &ndash; 0.76 inches in 24-hours, breaking the previous record from 1937.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet tw-align-center\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">A new daily rainfall record was set at the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GJAirport?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GJAirport<\/a> yesterday! Additionally, up to 0.25 inches of rain fell on the Black Mountain Fire in Grand County, which helped to moderate fire activity.<\/p>\n<p>By evening, the eastward progression of the low resulted in increased shower coverage over the Front Range Mountains, Southeast Mountains, and Urban Corridor, though rainfall totals were lighter due to <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;downsloping&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Refers to the winds that blow from higher elevations down towards lower elevations. As air parcels descend, they warm, which often results in rapid warming of areas near the higher terrains. It also promotes lower relative humidity values and stability, which prevents thunderstorm development.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>downsloping<\/span> winds and dry air closer to the surface, less than 0.25 inches was reported across the Urban Corridor.<\/p>\n<p>On the Eastern Plains and Palmer Ridge, <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;widespread&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;greater than 60% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>widespread<\/span> convective storm coverage began in the evening, with some localized higher rainfall totals. <strong>1.20 inches was reported in Julesburg<\/strong>, with 0.50-0.80 inch totals along the I-76 corridor. High winds from a <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;severe thunderstorm&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Thunderstorms that produce a tornado, winds of at least 58 mph (50 kts) and\/or hail at least 1&amp;quot; in diameter.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>severe thunderstorm<\/span> in Burlington with gusts over 75 mph caused extensive wind damage: a 50 mph gust took out the ASOS station in Burlington, there are reports of downed trees and damage to power lines resulting in power outages, and damage to mobile homes and windows. <strong>The Burlington area also received up to 0.90 inches of rain<\/strong> according to a <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;CoCoRaHS&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;&amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Co&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;mmunity &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Co&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;llaborative &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;Ra&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;in, &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;H&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;ail, and &amp;lt;strong&amp;gt;S&amp;lt;\/strong&amp;gt;now Network, a volunteer network of precipitation observers across the country&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>CoCoRaHS<\/span> observer.<\/p>\n<p>The eventual exit of the low-pressure system and surface <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;trough&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;An elongated area of relatively low atmospheric pressure; the opposite of a ridge.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>trough<\/span> in the early morning hours caused a clearing out for most of the Colorado, though residual moisture in Southwest Slope and Grand Valley has caused some <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span> early morning showers.<\/p>\n<p>Almost miraculously, no flooding was reported on Wednesday.
