Visible satellite imagery below shows cloud cover over the northern portion of the state associated with the ongoing <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;monsoon&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;a seasonal wind that brings moisture and rain to the region into which it blows; there is also a dry phase to monsoons, but popular usage refers only to the wet phase; these winds occur in many places around the world, and where they occur they are responsible for a majority of that location&rsquo;s annual precipitation&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>monsoon<\/span> moisture surge, which is helping to generate some <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span>, light showers over the western border this morning. There is also a noticeable drier air mass over the southwest corner as indicated by the lack of cloud cover (orange dotted oval). This may help to reduce the storms coverage over this region today. Not much change in the overall pattern, but the area of Low pressure from yesterday should have less of an influence on the overall pattern as it continues its westward progression. With the High pushing slightly north, due to the movement of the Low, steering flow over the state will really be lacking today. What that means is that storms will likely be anchored to the high terrains, remain nearly stationary, and pulse in intensity. So, while less coverage of the heavy rainfall is anticipated, storm cores will still be able to drop a lot of rain over an area.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;PW&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;(Stands for: Precipitable Water) The total atmospheric water vapor contained in a vertical column of the atmosphere. It is typically measured in inches, and anomalously (deviation from normal) high values of precipitable water generally correlate to heavy rainfall potential.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>PW<\/span> at Grand Junction was measured at 1.08 inches, so storms over the western elevated terrains will again have the potential to produce around an inch of rainfall over a short duration. Cloud cover also seems to be clearing out fairly easily with the daytime heating, which will let instability build for stronger storm cores. Over the eastern mountains, the heavy rainfall threat also continues with <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;PW&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;(Stands for: Precipitable Water) The total atmospheric water vapor contained in a vertical column of the atmosphere. It is typically measured in inches, and anomalously (deviation from normal) high values of precipitable water generally correlate to heavy rainfall potential.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>PW<\/span> increasing towards the southern border. <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;numerous&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;40-60% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Numerous<\/span> rounds of rainfall over the last 5 days across the mountains will support soils producing excessive runoff as well as mud flows and debris slides. For these reasons, the MODERATE\/LOW flood threat continues.<\/p>\n<p>There are also flooding concerns over the eastern plains where a <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;dryline&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A low-level, small-scale boundary that separates dry air from moist air. Storms develop along it because the dry air (behind the boundary) is less dense than the moisture-rich air (ahead of the boundary). Typically, it advances eastward during the afternoon and retreats westward at night.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>dryline<\/span> sets up with a lee <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;trough&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;An elongated area of relatively low atmospheric pressure; the opposite of a ridge.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>trough<\/span>. There is a high likelihood of storms popping along the northern portion of it by mid-afternoon. With <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;PW&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;(Stands for: Precipitable Water) The total atmospheric water vapor contained in a vertical column of the atmosphere. It is typically measured in inches, and anomalously (deviation from normal) high values of precipitable water generally correlate to heavy rainfall potential.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>PW<\/span> over 1.50 inches, <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;dew points&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The temperature to which a given air parcel must be cooled (at constant pressure and water vapor content) in order for saturation to occur.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>dew points<\/span> in the 60Fs and slow steering flows, storms that develop have the potential to produce VERY heavy rainfall. <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;outflow boundaries&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A surface boundary formed by the horizontal spreading of thunderstorm-cooled air. Outflow boundaries may intersect with each other or with other features (fronts, dry line, low-level jet) and initiate new convection. Brief strong winds are possible with outflow boundaries, and they can also persist for more than 24 hours.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Outflow boundaries<\/span> may aid in triggering additional <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;convection&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Refers to vertical atmospheric motion driven by buoyancy, i.e., warm air is less dense than cool air, and therefore rises. One of the primary drivers of thunderstorm development, especially during monsoon season.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>convection<\/span> over the denoted LOW flood threat area. While heavy rainfall is likely to be less <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;widespread&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;greater than 60% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>widespread<\/span>, nearly stationary storms will help to increase local precipitation totals. Over western Colorado, max 1-hour rainfall rates up to 1.75 inches (central), 1.50 inches (south) and 1 inch (north) will be possible. <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Isolated<\/span> storm totals up to 3.25 inches will be possible and most likely within the central portions of the mountains.<\/p>\n<p>To the east, max 1-hour rain rates up to 1.75 inches will be possible along with storm totals up to 3.25 inches. Less coverage of rainfall is anticipated over the northern Front Range, but rain rates up to 0.50 inches will be possible with the more <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span> storms that do develop.<\/p>\n<p>A MODERATE\/LOW flood threat have been reissued. Saturated soils will again increase the flood threat today as excessive runoff and mud flows\/debris slides become more likely. Other threats include road flooding and local stream\/creek flooding. Most of the storms should come to an end around 11PM with lighter rainfall activity into the morning early hours.<\/p>\n<p>Primetime: 11AM to 2AM<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Palmer Ridge, Urban Corridor, Northeast Plains &amp; Southeast Plains:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>A <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;dryline&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A low-level, small-scale boundary that separates dry air from moist air.
