In total, there are about 75 large wildfires with 5 of those large fires burning in Colorado. Marked in red is a departing <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;trough&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;An elongated area of relatively low atmospheric pressure; the opposite of a ridge.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>trough<\/span>, which is causing the cloudiness over SE Colorado and rain over Kansas. Today, the High will start to strengthen and northerly flow will pull in a drier air mass into the state. With weak upslope flow anticipated this afternoon in a drying environment, little to no rainfall is expected over the mountains. Best chance for measurable rain will be if the <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;cap&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The area where a parcel of air has negative buoyancy or sinks. The intensity of the cap is measured by its convective inhibition. If the cap is sufficiently large, it may prevent thunderstorms from forming at all.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>cap<\/span> over the eastern plains can break. Without a lot of upper support to help with lift, not thinking this this is too likely. However, if does occur, the weak thunderstorms should be&nbsp;fairly <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span>. Flooding is not expected today.<\/p>\n<p>Hot temperatures are also forecast with mid to upper 90Fs along the I-25 Corridor, upper 80Fs for the mountain valleys, and 100F over the Grand Valley\/lower elevations of western CO. Looking a little too dry today for afternoon storms over the mountains, but a few sprinkles are still possible along and near the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Continental Divide&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;the dividing line that separates the watersheds of the western and eastern United States; rivers west of the divide empty into the Pacific Ocean, while rivers east of the divide empty into the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Continental Divide<\/span> and southern Southeast Mountains. Storms may produce some brief windy conditions, but large damaging gusts are not currently forecast.<\/p>\n<p>There&rsquo;s also a slight chance for some weak thunderstorms to pop over the eastern plains (along a convergence boundary), but equal chance that there isn&rsquo;t quite enough lift to get these going. If storm do break the <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;cap&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The area where a parcel of air has negative buoyancy or sinks. Max 1-hour rain rates up to 0.45 inches will be possible, so flooding is not forecast.<\/p>\n<p>Primetime: 1:30PM to 8PM<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Northern Mountains, Central Mountains, San Juan Mountains, Southwest Slope, Northwest Slope, &amp; Grand Valley: <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Chances for afternoon and evening rainfall decreases today, but that also means less chance for windy conditions with the dry <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;boundary layer&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&amp;lt;br \/&amp;gt;&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&amp;lt;span style=&amp;quot;color: #ffffff;&amp;quot;&amp;gt;The lower portion of the atmosphere that is directly influenced by the earth&amp;#039;s surface. A few high-based storms could still initiate over the southern San Juan Mountains, but only <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;trace&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;a descriptor used when precipitation occurs, but the amount is too small (less than 0.01&amp;quot;) to be measured by a weather instrument such as a rain gauge&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>trace<\/span> amounts of rainfall are forecast. Highs will likely hit the 100F tick over the lower elevations of the Grand Valley and Southwest Slope again, so above average heat remains in the forecast.
