That means there will finally be a break in severe surface winds, which have caused so much damage the last couple of days. Behind the Low, northwesterly flow has taken over, which has pulled in a drier air mass to the state. <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;PW&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;(Stands for: Precipitable Water) The total atmospheric water vapor contained in a vertical column of the atmosphere. It is typically measured in inches, and anomalously (deviation from normal) high values of precipitable water generally correlate to heavy rainfall potential.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>PW<\/span> at Denver and Grand Junction was measured at 0.36 inches, which is a significant drop off from the last few days. Today, the ridge is forecast to build northward to our west, which means the rebound in high temperatures will begin. Expecting afternoon highs to be 10-15F warmer than yesterday. As for rainfall, there might be a couple high-based showers that develop along the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Continental Divide&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;the dividing line that separates the watersheds of the western and eastern United States; rivers west of the divide empty into the Pacific Ocean, while rivers east of the divide empty into the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Continental Divide<\/span> and over the Front Range near the Palmer Ridge with the upslope flow. However, limited low-level moisture will mean that <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;virga&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Wisps or streaks of precipitation falling out of a cloud that evaporate before reaching the surface. Virga can cause strong, but short-lived, localized winds (dry microburst).&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>virga<\/span> and broken cloud cover will be more likely that measurable rainfall.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11842 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/wv_20200610.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"558\" height=\"369\"\/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Today&rsquo;s Flood Threat Map<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>For more information on today&rsquo;s flood threat, see the map below. Surface winds look to increase to about 15 &ndash; 20 mph this afternoon over the Central and San Juan Mountain valleys, but other than that, a pleasant day is in store. A couple weak showers may develop over the mountains near the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Divide&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;the dividing line that separates the watersheds of the western and eastern United States; rivers west of the divide empty into the Pacific Ocean, while rivers east of the divide empty into the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Divide<\/span> further south, but only a few sprinkles are forecast.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Front Range, Southeast Mountains, San Luis Valley, Raton Ridge, Palmer Ridge, Urban Corridor<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong><strong>Southeast Plains<\/strong><strong>,<\/strong><strong> &amp; Northeast Plains:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Severe winds over the eastern plains are not forecast today with the relaxing pressure gradient. However, surface winds over the San Luis Valley and Northeast Plains may still increase to around 15-20 mph this afternoon.
