This typically happens when thunderstorms become <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;outflow&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A cool pool of air that results when a thunderstorm downdraft reaches the surface and spreads horizontally.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>outflow<\/span> driven due to low surface moisture. Soundings yesterday did have the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Inverted-V&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Refers to the shape of the lower levels of an atmospheric profile. As you can probably guess, these storms do not produce a lot of precipitation. The most impressive downburst yesterday was at the NCAR lab in Boulder, which recorded a 82 mph gust. As expected, there was damage. In Arvada, 3-inch tree limbs were broken, shingles were blown off homes and power lines were broken (power outages were also reported). After NCAR experienced the gust, <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;NWS&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;National Weather Service&lt;\/div&gt;\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>NWS<\/span> Boulder issued a <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;severe thunderstorm&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Thunderstorms that produce a tornado, winds of at least 58 mph (50 kts) and\/or hail at least 1&amp;quot; in diameter.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Severe Thunderstorm<\/span> <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Warning&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;a weather warning is issued when a specific weather event is imminent or occurring&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Warning<\/span> for the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;outflow boundary&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A surface boundary formed by the horizontal spreading of thunderstorm-cooled air. Outflow boundaries may intersect with each other or with other features (fronts, dry line, low-level jet) and initiate new convection. Brief strong winds are possible with outflow boundaries, and they can also persist for more than 24 hours.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>outflow boundary<\/span>. Winds decreased a bit as they moved east &ndash; DIA recorded a 58 mph gust. Over Bennett, the guest was measured at 65 mph. That&rsquo;s still very impressive! Storms were also present over the Northeast Plains, and again, impressive wind gusts with rain totals only around 0.25 inches. Zero visibility was reported in Yuma County north of Yuma where gusts in the area were in the 60 to 70 mph range. Back west, winds were also whipping around under storms that formed. Gusts between 50 and 60 mph were recorded near Fruita, Rifle, Kremmling and Craig at ASOS stations. The map is updated daily during the operational season (May 1 &ndash; Sep 30) by 11AM. The following six layers are currently available: 24-hour, 48-hour and 72-hour total precipitation, as well as maximum 1-hour, 2-hour and 6-hour precipitation over the past 24 hour period (to estimate where <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;flash flooding&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;flash flooding can refer to usually dry areas becoming rapidly inundated with water, or rapid water level rises on streams, creeks, or rivers beyond flood stage; typically caused by heavy rainfall, but can also be caused by meltwater&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>flash flooding<\/span> may have occurred).
