High temperatures will be a couple degrees warmer than yesterday and will flirt with record highs in a few locations. The heat and abundant sunshine will be the main weather story today, while the sidebar will be a couple <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span>, high-based thunderstorms. The strong high pressure will suppress most thunderstorm activity, but there are two areas to mention:<\/p>\n<p><em>Front Range, Southeast Mountains, San Juan Mountains, Raton Ridge, and immediately adjacent areas along I-25 and south of I-70<\/em>: Strong daytime heating and orographic effects will be the driving forces behind a couple <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span> thunderstorms. Gusty winds, cloud-to-ground lightning, and brief periods of light-to-moderate rainfall will be the main impacts. Small hail will be possible in stronger storms.<\/p>\n<p><em>Palmer Ridge, Northeast Plains, and northern Southeast Plains<\/em>: A weak <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;dryline&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A low-level, small-scale boundary that separates dry air from moist air. Storms develop along it because the dry air (behind the boundary) is less dense than the moisture-rich air (ahead of the boundary). Typically, it advances eastward during the afternoon and retreats westward at night.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>dryline<\/span> will result in some surface convergence over the area, although it remains to be seen whether there will be enough to overcome the strong high pressure aloft. One or two <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span> thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. A couple <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span>, high-based thunderstorms will rumble over areas adjacent to the higher terrain and south of I-70. A few <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span> thunderstorms will develop thanks to daytime heating and orographic effects, mainly south of I-70. Gusty winds, brief periods of light rainfall (less 0.15 inches\/hour), and cloud-to-ground lightning will be the main impacts from any thunderstorm development.<\/p>\n<p>Timing: Noon &ndash; 9 PM<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Northern Mountains, Northwest Slope, Grand Valley, Central Mountains, and San Luis Valley:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Plenty of sunshine and hot temperatures are expected, with a few clouds bubbling over the mountains during the heat of the afternoon.
