One the one hand, the high pressure will cause a 2-6 degrees Celsius increase in mid-level temperatures, which tends to suppress thunderstorm chances. On the other hand, this morning, as in the past two to three weeks, low-level moisture was very high with dewpoint temperatures in the 40s\/50s west of the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Divide&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;the dividing line that separates the watersheds of the western and eastern United States; rivers west of the divide empty into the Pacific Ocean, while rivers east of the divide empty into the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Divide<\/span> and 50s\/60s east of the <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Divide&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;&amp;lt;!-- wp:paragraph {&amp;quot;textColor&amp;quot;:&amp;quot;white&amp;quot;} --&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;p class=&amp;quot;has-white-color has-text-color&amp;quot;&amp;gt;the dividing line that separates the watersheds of the western and eastern United States; rivers west of the divide empty into the Pacific Ocean, while rivers east of the divide empty into the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico&amp;lt;\/p&amp;gt;\n&amp;lt;!-- \/wp:paragraph --&amp;gt;&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Divide<\/span>. <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;precipitable water&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The total atmospheric water vapor contained in a vertical column of the atmosphere. It is typically measured in inches, and anomalously (deviation from normal) high values of precipitable water generally correlate to heavy rainfall potential.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>Precipitable water<\/span> values were in the 0.6 to 1.0 inch range across the state, but we expect these to lower gradually through the day. All in all, storms are expected to be confined to the higher terrain as well as the southeast portion of the state today.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/watervapor_20150626.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1023\" src=\"https:\/\/archive-coftb.dewberryanalytics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/watervapor_20150626.png\" alt=\"watervapor_20150626\" width=\"765\" height=\"430\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We expect partly to mostly sunny skies this morning to lead to thunderstorms over the highest terrain of the Northern, Central and Southeast Mountains. Early storms will yield only light rainfall, up to 0.5 inches. As storms mature and move southeast, rainfall intensities will increase and a Low flood threat has been issued for parts of southeast Colorado. Activity may persist as late as midnight as stubborn <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;outflow boundaries&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;A surface boundary formed by the horizontal spreading of thunderstorm-cooled air. Outflow boundaries may intersect with each other or with other features (fronts, dry line, low-level jet) and initiate new convection. Brief strong winds are possible with outflow boundaries, and they can also persist for more than 24 hours.&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>outflow boundaries<\/span> maintain convergence zones that could fuel storm activity. In the late afternoon and evening, storms may produce hail up to 1.25 inches in diameter over the Low threat area.<\/p>\n<p>We have finally removed the flood threat for the Arkansas River as only very <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span> stretches (notably near La Junta) remain in minor flood stage. A thunderstorm cannot be ruled out over eastern parts of the area, but rainfall will be less than 0.25 inches. No flooding is expected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Central Mountains, Front Range, Urban Corridor, Northeast Plains: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mostly sunny early, then turning partly cloudy with <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;scattered&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;25-40% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>scattered<\/span> thunderstorms forming over the highest terrain shortly after noon. Rainfall will be limited to about 0.7 inches, so no flooding is expected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Palmer Ridge, Southeast Plains, Raton Ridge and Southeast Mountains:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sunny early then partly cloudy with <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;isolated&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;less than 10% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>isolated<\/span> to <span class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;scattered&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;25-40% areal coverage&lt;\/div&gt;\" data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'>scattered<\/span> thunderstorms developing by early afternoon over the highest terrain. Storms will move southeastward over the plains by mid-afternoon. Most storms will have light rainfall, generally under 1 inch. However, some of the strongest cells will be capable of 1.8 inch per hour rainfall. A Low flood threat has been issued for parts of the area.
